Agreed with the tags above. I think it’s just another example of how Tony cares, but it’s also a really good example of how bad he is at other people. He can read them just fine, but he grew up in such a segmented environment that he never had much chance for things in the way of social interraction. I think part of the reason he jokes is because it’s the only way he knows how to interact with new people.

It’s hard to think of Tony Stark as AWKWARD, but when it comes to people, he definitely is.
